BG-BASE users have been using the system to electronically map their collections since 1988, and over the years, many mapping initiatives have taken place involving both CAD and GIS.
Over the past 5 years we have worked with ESRI to produce tightly coupled and full featured links between BG-BASE and ESRI’s ArcGIS technologies. During this presentation, we will highlight the challenges and successes in linking our post-relational database to ESRI’s geospatial database structures. The advantage of this approach is that we can take advantage of BG-BASE’s ability to manage highly complex biological data while at the same time capitalizing on ESRI’s world leadership in managing geospatial data.
