Back to presentations: Managing and enhancing the visitor experience in botanic and historic gardens
After working at National Trust gardens, including Mount Stewart, Powis Castle and finally as Garden Manager at Waddesdon Manor for 24 years Michael joined St Modwen at Trentham at the start of the regeneration of the estate in 2004. In 2010 Trentham won the European Gardens Heritage Network award Best Development of a Historic Park or Garden. Since then the focus has broadened to the wider estate where a comprehensive programme of landscape and ecological conservation is underway. The estate is also in discussion with Nigel Dunnett at Sheffield University with a view to adding a new layer to Capability Browns Woods. Michael is involved with a number of panels including the National Trust Gardens Panel, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, the Royal Horticultural Society Bursaries; is a Fellow of the Institute of Horticulture, board member of Staffordshire Tourism and an honorary Vice President of the PGG.
