Back to presentations: Urban Public Gardens: challenges and opportunities
Dr Tim Upson  has been Curator of Cambridge University Botanic Garden for the past 16 years and is currently the Acting Director. The 40-acre landscape garden and collection of over 8000 plant species forms the research and teaching collection of the University of Cambridge, but is also enjoyed by over 200 000 visitors each year. The Garden was developed in two phases: the western heritage garden from 1846, adjoining local Fens; and the eastern area from the 1950s and adjacent to major office and residential developments. The threats and opportunities posed by these urban developments within the vicinity of the Garden was the inspiration to host this conference in Cambridge. Tim is a graduate of the Kew Diploma and University of Reading, with research interests in Plant Systematics, and he is known for his work on Lavandula and Rosmarinus. He has been a Trustee of PlantNetwork since 2007.
