Nicholas Wray, University of Bristol Botanic Garden

Nicholas is Curator of the University of Bristol Botanic Garden. The 3.2-acre garden is located in the heart of the University’s residential campus, close to the city centre. The Ballast Seed Garden is a joint project between the University of Bristol Botanic Garden, Arnolfini and Bristol City Council, utilising a disused grain barge to create a special garden on Bristol’s Floating Harbour, populated with a variety of non-native plants, creating a living history of the city’s trade and maritime past. The Ballast Seed Garden project is the idea of Brazilian artist Maria Theresa Alves. The 5-year project is a permanent art installation in the heart of the city, from which Seeds of Change has been created, a community-based project highlighting Bristol’s historic maritime history and the biology of plants through a programme of school and community-based gardens.
