PlantNetwork and the Chartered Institute of Horticulture hosted an event looking at sourcing and establishing healthy trees at the Tree Health Centre, Yorkshire Arboretum in North Yorkshire on 13 September 2022.
The meeting focused on the big issues facing tree health in the UK with an update on pest and diseases, a look at how you can source healthy new tree stock, monitoring for problems once planted out, including damage by invasive mammals, and ensure good tree establishment in a changing climate.
It wasn’t just about talks. There was a short workshop to find out what sites are currently doing to source healthy trees and the barriers to implementing further measures, plus a walk around the Yorkshire Arboretum to identify pest and disease issues. With a great mix of speakers from Fera Science, the Plant Healthy Certification Scheme, Royal Horticultural Society, Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, APHA, Forestry Commission and Yorkshire Arboretum, the meeting also provided plenty of networking opportunities with other tree professionals.
A summary of the meeting is provided below with a selection of presentations from the day (with thanks to the speakers for allowing us to replicate here).
