This event, which took place on 22 October 2019, looked at trees and how they are cared for during development at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.
The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh has a world class collection of trees. Strategic curation of this exciting dynamic collection to create a garden to engage and delight visitors as well as meeting our scientific, conservation and education requirements is delivered by a dedicated team of horticulturalists, scientists and arborists. The event included a tour of the collection to evaluate recent plantings, new introductions, tree risk management and conservation of the heritage collection. The tour focused on how new buildings in the garden have been sited, planned and constructed with consideration to the retention of mature trees. In particular, there was a discussion of the new Edinburgh biome project with the landscape architect responsible for the project.
This was a fantastic opportunity to:
- Evaluate the success of tree protection methods during development.
- Compare and contrast planting schemes.
- Discuss tree care, tree health and tree management with the RBGE team and colleagues from across PlantNetwork.
