RHS Inspires – inspiring the minds of young people about the world of horticulture

The charity Education and Employers work directly with schools to promote careers across a multitude of industries and the amazing career paths that exist through engaging activities (online and face to face) delivered by volunteers from the world of work.  To promote the breadth of horticultural careers and broaden young people’s horizons about future opportunities within horticulture, the RHS has collaborated with Education and Employers and their ‘Inspiring the Future’ initiative.

During a trial, schools have already experienced sessions with Jonathan Moseley, the florist, Helen Latham of the RHS Science Team and a number of others including Michael Perry, Jack Shilley and Ellen Mary.

Following a successful pilot, the RHS is now looking to recruit around 200 horticultural professionals from every sector of the industry across the nation to sign up as a volunteer to provide every school in the UK with the potential to contact a horticulturalist & promote horticulture as a career.

Sparking interest at a young age is vital to our industry and securing tomorrow’s workforce. If you are passionate about sharing your experiences and would like to be part of this amazing opportunity, then contact the RHS to join the scheme.

Full support is provided by Education and Employers, including access to resources and training videos as well as monthly training webinars and quarterly forums, so you can get the most out of using the self-service volunteering platform. Click here to watch a short film about how it works.

Volunteers can choose whether to participate in events providing great flexibility around existing work commitments. All we ask is that you are able to dedicate a minimum of one hour per year.
