Horticulture offers a variety of different career pathways, from working in public gardens, including heritage landscapes and botanic gardens, to careers growing for nurseries and garden centres as well as specialisms in trees, alpines and hundreds of other plants, gardens and growing opportunities. There are a few well-recognised routes into horticulture, from apprenticeships and trainee programmes to college-based learning, vocational training and work placements – but what happens once you are launched into the world of horticulture?

In this session, we looked at opportunities to develop your career in horticulture once out of training. We heard from Dr Suzanne Moss, Head of Education and Learning at the Royal Horticultural Society, about opportunities to develop careers through the RHS MHort qualification, and we were joined by MorePeople’s Tom Edmondson-Matthews and Sarah Want to discuss opportunities in commercial horticulture – from growing to garden centres. The PlantNetwork pilot mentoring programme was also introduced. While very much a live discussion session, a recording of the event is available to PlantNetwork members to watch again.
