The fully booked Tree Forum ‘tree establishment’ event at Westonbirt was a great success with many positive reviews. The 24 attendees heard how the Forestry Commission staff explained how they plan, manage and record the process of establishment from seed acquisition and propagation through planting to ongoing inspection and after care. There was plenty of discuss and sharing of experience among those attending especially about planting techniques (though no disputes over square vs round holes!) and the need to view tree establishment within the wider picture of conservation and landscape planning.
This is the first Tree Forum event for some time but we hope to organise at least two for 2018. Let us have any ideas for subjects to cover or suitable venues.
