Brought to you by PlantNetwork, Sibbaldia – The International Journal of Botanic Garden Horticulture, and the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, this conference celebrated horticultural achievements and considered how we can promote excellent horticultural practice across all public gardens and designed landscapes – whether botanic, heritage or destination gardens.

Part of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh’s 350th anniversary celebrations, the event covered the past, present and future of horticultural practice. We were joined by an exciting programme of speakers across three afternoons to debate the role of horticulture in the curation and conservation of plants, garden heritage and plant health issues.

It was also the first time that a PlantNetwork conference was held online and while this might have reduced networking opportunities, it didn’t prevent tours of RBGE, a drinks reception and small group discussions – all of which took place virtually. We also hosted a session called “Horticulture in 2020” which looked at four key horticultural topics: you can watch the video of this session.

All sessions are available to conference delegates through their unique conference link.

Promoting Excellence in Horticulture for Everyone

The conference started with a panel discussion addressing what we mean by ‘excellent horticulture’. This event, which used live polling of participants to gauge opinions and direct discussion, was open to anyone to attend to ensure that everyone could have a taster of the conference. You can watch the discussion again and find out what definitions were developed here:
