“We are thrilled to bring the PlantNetwork community together again in 2026, particularly as we celebrate 30 years. For three decades, PlantNetwork has supported collaboration, shared learning and professional connections across the sector.

Session 1: What will resilient plant collections management look like?
William Hinchliffe, Deputy Curator at RBGE and PlantNetwork Trustee

Resilience is often framed as ‘weathering the storm’. This session explores whether resilience in 2026 actually requires the courage to change our management objectives entirely.

Session 2: How should we be making the most of our network of plant records?
Sam Brockington, Professor & Curator at the University of Cambridge and PlantNetwork Trustee

If 100 years of data is showing that our collections have limited conservation value, can we use that information to make a sustainable change? Although botanic and public gardens hold a large percentage of the world's plant diversity, they are often missing the most vulnerable species, or their collections lack the genetic diversity necessary. Should global data audits now dictate our acquisition and deaccessioning policies, even if it means losing locally beloved heritage specimens?

Session 3: How will we understand and reconcile the many cultures of our plants?
Pam Smith, Senior National Consultant for Garden & Parklands with National Trust.

The global plant palette found in many gardens is of increasing interest in the areas of Plant Humanities research and understanding public benefit and relevance of gardens as historic sites, botanical institutions and visitor attractions. What is the role of horticulturists in such partnerships and public engagement?

Session 4: How should heritage horticulture evolve?
Matthew Pottage, Head of Horticulture & Landscape Strategy for The Royal Parks in London

This session addresses the tension between some of the resource-intensive traditions of heritage horticulture and the modern requirements for financial and environmental sustainability.
