Back to presentations: Pests and diseases on trees and shrubsChris Malumphy, an entomologist in Fera’s Pest and Disease Identification Programme described a range of recent Hemipteran (Bugs and Scale insects) pests – these represent almost half the newly arriving invertebrate pests in the UK. The following species were discussed:

  • Western conifer seed bug (Leptoglossus occidentalis)
  • oak lace bug (Corythucha arcuata)
  • white peach scale (Pseudaulacaspis pentagona)
  • San Jose scale (Diaspidiotus perniciosus)
  • wisteria scale (Eulecanium excrescens)
  • Oak leaf phylloxera (Phylloxera quercus)
  • Elaeagnus sucker, Pieris lacebug, Cottony camellia scale
