PlantNetwork publishes a regular newsletter containing news and information from botanic gardens, arboreta and holders of other documented plant collections in Britain and Ireland. This newsletter is only available to members of PlantNetwork. Institutional members receive several copies of the Newsletter for circulation amongst their staff.

    • Philip Aubury retired in July after 20 years as Director of Birmingham Botanical Gardens and Glasshouses, taking it from financial deficit to a flourishing concern. James Wheeler is now Chief Executive and Curator. Nigel Hopes, a former student at the Gardens, is the new Alpine Supervisor.
    • Natasha de Vere will take up the post of Conservation Botanist at the National Botanic Garden of Wales in October. She is currently Conservation Officer for the Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust, which owns Paignton Zoo.
    • Bob Rutherford has retired as Head Gardener at the Cruickshank Botanic Garden, University of Aberdeen. Richard Walker is now Head Gardener.
    • Timothy Wroe is responsible for the glasshouses at Chelsea Physic Garden. Mark Pateman is manager of plant records.
    • Charlotte Karsemeijer is now Garden Supervisor for Lilywood and Tir na’n Og at Mount Stewart (National Trust) replacing Michael McEvoy who is travelling in Australasia.
    • Chris Kelly retired in autumn 2006 after many years as Director of the J F Kennedy Arboretum in Ireland. Geoffrey Michael is the Acting Director.
    • Noeleen Smyth and Colin Kelleher have been appointed as botanists at the National Botanic Gardens Glasnevin, they will work on the Irish National Strategy for Plant Conservation. Alex Caccamo is the new Librarian.
    • Chris Prior has left as Head of Horticultural Sciences at the RHS.
    • Kirsty Rhind takes up the post of Forum Manager for GreenSpace North West in September, succeeding Ros Johnson.
    • Etelka Leadlay is to retire at the end of September 2007 after more than 20 years at Botanic Gardens Conservation International. Details from Julia Willison (email: julia.willison@bgci.org).
